AD show

my fav 7 @ the Arch Digest Show [2012]x

My coworker and I visited the Architectural Digest show on Thursday 3/22.  We didn't get to see any celebrity designers since we had to go on opening day at 10am but we did have the chance to peruse more isles than we did last year.  From art to accessories and furniture, to appliances and architectural features (window, stairs, stone).  I thought it was a great exhibit.  Not only did I enjoy a lot of the displays, but I learned of new products that will, hopefully, be applicable to my work in the near future.
Here is a list of my top favorite 7 [2+5] from this years show:

#1 Vicki DaSilva Fine Art Photography:
this woman creates art by setting up a camera on a tripod with a long exposure setting and holds tubes or bulbs of light in varieties of colors to produce a pattern of light.  She told us she always wanted to be a graffiti artist but was afraid of the implications of street art and this was the next best thing [Light Graffiti].  She had a video monitor playing of her creating the actual different pieces.  I thought it was amazing! You must check it out.  www.vickidasilva.com

#2 Wild Chairy:
Andrea Mihalik scours thru estate sales purchasing antique chairs, strips them, puts in new coil, horse hair, cotton and re-upholsters them in fun, lively, eye catching, whimsical fabrics.  I love the bright hues and fun patterns. www.wildchairy.com

#3 Ben Joyce Art:
i believe the caption in this booth was "What Place do you Love?".  This artist creates abstracts paintings of a place (city, state, country) you love [abstract topophilia].  The pieces are vivid, colorful, and intriguing.  I thought the broken off corner, what I am guessing is his signature, was quirky.  It looked like someone took a bite out of the painting. www.benjoyceart.com

#4 the New Traditionalists:
this vendor had a nice size studio apartment like set up.  A living room, dining room, bedroom, office.  They immediately had me with all of the red (my favorite color).  Red lacquer on casegoods, red fabrics, accessories, even red match stick books and coasters as freebies.  They offer american made furniture that's rich, urban, sophisticated and cool all at once.  A lot of pieces can be customized to a color of your choice and they also offer different color, fabric, wood options to mix and match. www.thenewtraditionalists.com

#5 Art Addiction:
the ART for kids section caught my eye.  This vendor offers imagery printed on acrylic panels that float from the wall surface. Not only was this booth filled with a variety of subject matter, colors, and presence, but the prices were affordable.  With the kids art section prices ranging around $150 a panel (depending on size). www.artaddictioninc.com

#6 Trufig:
recessed, concealed, and seamless light switches, receptacles, vent grilles, speakers, AV control panels = an Architect/Designers dream!  This company offers all of the above and all you have to do is hire a great faux artist to blend in the face plate to what ever material the devices are installed on. www.trufig.com

#7 Astek Inc:
scull, damask, abstract wallcoverings, films, and fabrics were just a few of the multitude of offerings we saw at this booth.  The colors, patterns, and display were amazing.  You can purchase their prints or they'll even work with you to print your own patterns.  I later learned that they have been serving the television and film industry since the 80's.

03.14

Today is Pi Day! (and also Albert Einstein's birthday)  States, schools, and "nerds" pay homage to the equal mathematical ratio of the circumference of a circle to it's diameter. I was once a math lover during my school years.
But I did not choose "PI" as the title of my blog for mathematical reasons.  I chose it for the circle.  The symbolism of a circle as a meaningful  shape.  A circle to me means unity, cycles, and centering.  The circle of life.  Four quarters (25) making a whole. For curvilinear forms making shape to interesting designs.  I also loved how the Pi symbol looked similar to the symbol of my horoscope (Pisces).  I love how so many "P" things are present in my life. But that could not be a coincidence.  No! To me it is the universe's way of telling me I am here for a greater purpose. That I am meant to do great things.  And as times progresses, through every experience, trial, tribulation, I am closer to finding out that reason of my being.  Hoping that I meet up to my own expectations as well. Either way, Happy Pi Day!

Twenty Five

My lucky number! Many great moments have been created on the 25th. It all began with the day I was born. A day like today. I met the love of my life, my husband on June 25th. My first born was born at 2:25am. I purchased a home on the 25th of April. It is the first of only 2 perfect square numbers. A quarter of a whole. So today, the 25th of February, I hope to have more happiness, prosperity, love, and serenity. Enough for today and enough to last a lifetime. Namaste _/|\_

[parenting]

The most important role I've taken on and the one that has changed my life, physically, mentally, emotionally! I've never been the same since that first day in August of 2005 (2:25am). It has brought both the worst & best out of me. A role that continues to evolve. Testing me. Allowing me to see the more important things in life. Learning to think outside of myself. Wishing and hoping that I am doing my best all the time.
